There are many stories of healing by Jesus. Today, healing is done through science. Humans have always suffered and sought relief. We have tried almost everything to gain relief. Jesus was known as a healer. Our reading tells of Jesus healing a woman on the Sabbath causing disapproval among the religious leaders. It was a day of rest and Jesus was doing work. The leaders felt the woman was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Healing should be done on the other six days. Back then, everything was attributed to having demons or bad spirits inside you. Today, we know there is often a medical reason for illness. We are just beginning to understand about mental illness though. There is still a large stigma surrounding those who suffer from mental health issues. We are merging the physical, emotional, and mental health now. It is all connected.  Jesus dealt with our spiritual health. Reflecting inward, we ask what spirit has crippled us. Many today are fighting over what we feel is important. Some favor looking at the individual while others are concerned about world-wide issues. The answer is in the middle. God loves us on both levels. One way this manifests is the addiction epidemic we are currently facing. Other ways are racism, xenophobia, and discrimination towards the LGBTQ community. Today at Pilgrim is the right place and the right time to be delivered and receive some spiritual healing!
