Today, our theme is help wanted. The message from Jesus is that the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. As we are healing from COVID-19, we can help by wearing masks and social distancing. Pilgrim is doing its part by being cautious concerning opening. We are also fighting another “disease”, racism. Our country has been gathering together in many cities and towns protesting racism. Some would classify racism as a mental disease. It has signs or symptoms like narcissism, delusions of grandeur, and induces a psychosomatic blindness to the suffering of individuals with dark complexions. Others feel it is more of a cultural problem. Either way, we have a lot of work to do. Even Jesus acknowledges that healing is hard work. Everyone is needed. We have delayed this task for too long. It has been time for action for a long time. This hard work starts with YOU. There is a book by Robin DiAngelo called, White Fragility. It may help enlighten us and encourage us as we have conversations about race. Please join us in the church all-read and begin the hard work on ridding the world of racism.
