In these historic times, we look to the lectionary to address what is going on in the world today. Exodus, chapter 3, is one of the foundational passages of liberation theology. God was upset about the oppression of the Israelites by the Egyptians. Today, God is upset about the oppression of blacks in America. God is watching. God is provoked by the police shooting Jacob Blake just as God was provoked by the Egyptians’s oppression of the Israelites. God is calling people to action. The protests around the country and the world are God’s way of waking us up from our mundane lives. God is calling us to action. The message is “Let my people live!”
