The Rev. Madison T. Shockley II is the pastor of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Carlsbad, CA. He brings to Pilgrim Church a wealth of experience from his work in the religious, political, non-profit, and media environments. Madison was called to Pilgrim Church in 2004.

Along with performing his pastoral duties with Pilgrim, Madison serves on the board of directors of American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of San Diego and Imperial Counties and the board of directors of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. He holds the Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and has done advanced graduate work at Claremont Graduate University in New Testament Studies. He is married to Gayle P. Shockley née Welch, and they are the parents of four adult children.

Anna Runion
Minister for youth and social justice

Anna began working with Pilgrim in 2010 and is passionate about justice and advocacy work. A graduate of Point Loma Nazarene University, she completed her B.A. in Managerial and Organizational Communication in 2008 and is now pursuing an M.A. in Religion.

She has served at Missiongathering Christian Church as the Director of Street Angels Ministries, a homeless youth street outreach, and worked at the San Diego LGBT Community Center as a Case Manager at Sunburst Youth Housing Project. She is currently a Member in Discernment toward Commissioned Ministry within the UCC Southern Association. She also serves on the Justice Overcoming Boundaries Executive Committee.

Evan Rutledge
Webmaster

Based in Seattle and San Diego, Evan is a marketing communications veteran with an established track record of marketing and event success in North America, Europe, and Asia. In his 14-year marketing career, Evan has been fortunate enough to work with some of the world’s largest brands, supporting marketing events like the opening keynote for the largest tradeshow in North America, or running a product launch event for the largest bookseller in South Korea (where he was told he looks like Brad Pitt…even though that isn’t even remotely accurate.

Evan is thankful to have been a part of Pilgrim UCC and is happy to call it home whenever he returns to San Diego from his new home in Seattle.

Dominique Gary
Director, Pilgrim Children’s Center

Dominique has 11 years of experience working with children of all ages. Her professional background in Child Development includes 5 years of experience managing school age and preschool programs. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from San Diego State University along with 24 Child Development units. She is currently pursing a Program Director’s Permit.

In addition to being a Child Development Specialist Dominique is also a mom. She believes that only another parent can truly understand the challenges of parenthood. Dominique would like to share the experience of parenthood with your family.


Claudia Reeder
Children’s director

Claudia has been the Director of Children’s Ministries at Pilgrim Church since 2001. She received a BA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California Santa Barbara and a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from San Diego State University.

Claudia taught elementary school in Escondido for eight years. As Director of Children’s Ministries, Claudia is in charge of the Sunday School and Nursery during worship each Sunday.


Jaime Romo
Minister, healing & healthy environments

Dr. Romo is a Commissioned Minister in the United Church of Christ for Healing and Healthy Environments. He earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of San Diego and has taken an active role in developing and implementing Safe Church Policies and Healing Community practices in churches since 2009, leading trainings for parents, volunteers and employees. Jaime also facilitates Traumatic Incident Reduction sessions for anyone who would like to greatly reduce or resolve the negative symptoms from adverse life experiences. He also loves bringing music with the Band of Pilgrims.

Tom Laurence
Organist

Tom is the Church Organist and has been at Pilgrim since 1993. He began playing organ at his church’s services while still in high school. He received his music degree from Wayne State University and served four years as a Navy musician.

He has performed on the Spreckels Pipe Organ in Balboa Park. He still finds time for teaching piano and playing at local schools.
