Everyone has dreamed of having a jinn grant them three wishes. This concept goes back to 2500 BC. This legend has even been blended with King Solomon. Using a powerful ring, Solomon summoned the jinn who was stealing the royal jewels. He then condemned the jinn to a lamp. There are versions of Christian faith that seem to view God as a cosmic jinn. If you live righteously, you just ask God and your wish is granted. This prosperity gospel has a “name it and claim it” view of life. In the reading today, Solomon is asked by God what does he want. After great consideration, he asked for wisdom. We can only hope that our leaders, both politically and spiritually, seek God’s wisdom too. Maybe we should invite wisdom into our own lives.
