Happy Mother’s Day! The reading tells us there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for others. Love is the core of our faith. God is love. Mothers model love to their children. They teach us how to love. We learn to put others above ourselves. The community is bound together by love. We experience one another’s differences and the wonderful diversity of our community. This helps us when we go out into the world and love those we do not yet know. Even though we may disagree, we are still one community, one country, one world. Mothers risk themselves from the moment of conception until their last breathe. They need everyone’s support. The support needed includes good family leave and child care. We discovered that as women were given higher education and economic opportunities, the more choices they had about how they lived their lives. They could plan how many children and when to have them. This empowerment threaten¬†patriarchal societies around the world. This effects economies and fuels immigration. Let us show God’s love to all so that all may have a better life.
