Our reading tells the story of the woman who anointed Jesus with precious oil. She was not named even though Jesus said that whenever this gospel is told, we will do this in memory of her. There are many incidences throughout the Bible of strong women. Some were named while many were not. Women supported the apostles and Jesus as they traveled, preached, and healed. Women remained with Jesus as he hung on the cross. Women were the first to arrive at the empty tomb. Several women were leaders in the early church. On this Father’s Day, we are celebrating the women. It is their service that makes them the greatest. The Christian faith owes a great deal to women. In society, women are often thought of as the least of society. Now is the time to act in memory of that anonymous woman.
