The past is not dead or gone. It lives on and affects everyone. Our traditions and culture are shaped by the past. Our words originated in our past. Knowledge is past down from generation to generation. The concept of the division of something conceptually into two opposed or contrasted aspects, Dualism, has had a tremendous impact on our world views. Examples are Good and Evil, Light and Darkness, Heaven and Earth or faith versus science. The past is deeply rooted and lives on today. We must turn our attention to these past ideas and confront it. We must look to the future.
