Our reading today talks about who would be considered part of our family. The answer is anyone who does the will of God. Jesus redefined relationships. He broke down hierarchy, blood, and nationality. Faith is thicker than blood. While we would like to think of ourselves as multiracial and multicultural, some places still hold discrimination and racism. This is why our Social Justice team’s work is so important. Our book club has started reading White Too Long by Robert P. Jones. We hope those involved will become anti-racist activists. The rest of us must wait until others can share their experiences with us. Multiculturalism is not a dirty word. It is a chance for all to learn from one another and evolve a culture that weaves together the best parts. We can gain new perspectives, ideas, and values that improve our lives. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Jesus declared that all were children of God. All were family. All cultures have value. All people are equal in the eyes of God. Do you do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God? You are my family.
