Today’s passage by Luke quotes Isaiah in order to discomfort the Israelites living in the promised land. They needed to be shaken out of their comfort zone. The world was not ready to receive God’s presence. There was more work to be done spiritually. Today we also need to make the world ready. During this advent season, we often think of children and the world they are entering. It is our job to prepare the world a place of peace and love. Two recent events are hindering our efforts. The Supreme Court heard a case that may overturn Roe vs. Wade. This should be about a woman’s right to chose and reproductive justice. The second event is another school shooting, killing 4 students and damaged the lives of 7 other people. This issue makes the world a dangerous place. Guns are the second leading cause of death in America. We are called to make God’s path straight and smooth. Only then, shall God’s presence be with us all.
