We gather together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. There is no greater hope than that embodied in a newborn baby. There is something sacred as we look into their eyes. They embody all our family’s hopes and dreams for a better future. In the Bible, the Christmas stories were told long after the fact. By telling these stories, the authors wanted the audience to understand the divine origins of Jesus. He was the ONLY Son of God. It is a celebration of light overcoming darkness. Today when we ask whether Jesus was born to Mary, we are really asking if Jesus’s birth can inspire a world and give them hope. Are we inspired to seek peace and love? To learn to share the world’s resources. To seek justice and equality. Are we worthy of the title, Child of God?
