Our reading today tells the story of the time Jesus was left behind at the temple. His parents spent three days looking for him before finding him still at the temple. We often focus on Jesus’s or the temple scholars’ perspective but today, we focus on this story from the parents’ perspective. This is a story of a lost child, a parents’ worst nightmare. They scold Jesus but he brushes off their concern. Luke uses this incident to hint at the later revelation that Jesus is God’s son and a great teacher. The reasoning is that Jesus needed to have God as a father in order to do all the wondrous teachings he does later in his life. His words heal the human soul. We are lost until we find the words of Jesus that can transform our lives.  Those words and teachings which will change our lives for the better. Contemplate which words changed your life.
