We are a congregation that prides ourselves on being open and affirming. Thirteen years ago, we were tested. A registered sex offender approached the church. He wanted to connect and be part of a faith community. This triggered members with a history of abuse. We struggled between being supportive in his journey and being supportive and healing to those within our congregation. We became a case study in how churches deal with both sides. We created some guidelines, resources, and a support system. This has spread beyond our church. We continue our learning how to be a healing community.
